Ownership is more than a title with debt. Owners are a special breed and aren't always tuned in to their associates' perspective of ownership. As a result, a staggering number of associates who are offered ownership turn away from the opportunity. It's not due to a lack of interest, money, or motivation but rather lack of preparation for the role.
In the late 1990's, after seeing the success rate for buy-ins decline to less than 50% and knowing that the main cause was lack of buyer preparation, we decided to do something about it. We designed a new service we call 'ownership transitions' to teach future owners the business of veterinary medicine and educate both buyers and sellers about the valuation and buy-in process. The program includes six conferences over a twelve to eighteen month period and focuses on preparing you and your associate (and your staff, too!) for your new roles.
